“What I Have Left”- Mike Bones

Video

I got this song a year or two ago on one of Urban Outfitters’ LSTN download mixes. I completely forgot about it until I recently watched the trailer for The Descendents and found something about the background track faintly familiar. A little Shazam-ing (one of my favorite apps), and I realized that in fact it was this long lost song in the trailer. And here I am, listening to it again today.

Sunglasses for All

I’m a bit of a sunglasses fiend. I used to be in the camp where you only needed a black pair and a brown pair and you were good to go. Noooo not any more. I would much rather get many pairs for practically no money and have a variety to choose from than splurge on one expensive pair. Both of these pairs happened to be $10. That’s what I’m talkin about here. Sunglasses variety for all!

Taking the New Kimichi Blue Heels for a Spin

20130818-174718.jpg

I finally got to wear these heels! I probably got them a month ago, and wore them for the first time today. At one point, I questioned why I even bought them, but on sale for $10 at Urban Outfitters, why not? Anyway, here’s my outfit, accessories, and shoes. For the record, the reason I don’t wear heels often is NOT because of my 6’+ stature (if I hear “why do you wear heels? You don’t need to!!!” again, I may lose it) but rather because of the horrible clicking noise they make everywhere you go and the discomfort they cause. I am trying to wear them more though, so I should get points for trying.

“My Tears Are Becoming A Sea”- M83

Video

Chills. This song is in the Rust and Bone trailer and makes it absolutely captivating and entrancing. It’s a short song, which makes me wish it was longer, but I’ll survive. This song is the quintessential example of a song choice making or breaking an entire trailer. In this case, it made it and made me want to see Rust and Bone more than I can express.

This Clip Is Precisely Why I Need To See “Frances Ha”

Video

I strongly encourage to check out the trailer for Frances Ha. I’m not sure exactly when it came out or whether it was in select theaters or not, but I am intrigued. I first saw Greta Gerwig in “Greenberg” with Ben Stiller and I have to say I wasn’t in love with it, but I have high hopes for “Frances Ha”. The fact that the entire movie is in black and white gives it such a unique and romanticized feel that isn’t found in many movies today. The plot and characters seem to be extremely genuine, only further adding to the draw of the film. In short, I need to find a way to see this, and soon.

Fashion via Decor: My Room In All Its Eclectic, Messy Glory

The workspace! (Or lack thereof)

The chair I rarely sit in.

One of the few things you can do with pressed leaves and flowers (my handiwork).

Where the magic happens (and by magic, I mean sleeping in late and rarely making my bed).

Where I get my makeup did… by me.

The happy home of about half of my clothes.

P.S. My closet has been omitted because some things are meant to remain private/it was just too messy to share.

“Do I Wanna Know?”- Arctic Monkeys

Video

I know this came out a month or two ago, but I finally got around to listening to the song all the way through today and I love it. There’s something so wonderful about a British band who’s blatantly British. Many artists lose their accent in their singing, but not so with the Arctic Monkeys. This is something so unique about them that makes them noticeable and catchy. Check em out!

The Marvelous Woody Allen

20130811-021651.jpg

This is a public service announcement: There is a two part documentary about Woody Allen on Netflix. I urge every last one of you to watch it. I love Woody Allen movies, granted I haven’t seen more than five of them. I have truly enjoyed all of the ones I’ve seen, especially the classics Manhattan and Annie Hall. There’s nothing more intriguing than learning about the individual behind great works of art.

Woody Allen has made over 40 movies in his career, at a rate of about one movie a year. He has no shortage of ideas, doesn’t listen to critics, and cringes at publicity events; he is simply passionate about his art. In the documentary, Allen admits that although he is viewed as a comedian, he truly enjoys tragedy more than comedy because of the realness it evokes.

There were so many fun facts I learned about this man, which I had never known. He had relationships with Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow (both his muses at one point or another), he plays the clarinet in a jazz group every week at the Carlyle in NY, and he started writing one liners for newspaper columns in high school. These are just some tid-bits about his private life, but just as interesting were accounts from colleagues on his directing style and the ups and downs of his career. For example, did you know that Allen hired the cinematographer of the Godfather series, nicknamed the “Prince of Darkness”, for Annie Hall? This choice shocked everyone in the industry. Or did you know that Allen barely directs his actors? He also barely hosts auditions for roles either; he simply picks people for the role, gives them the creative liberty to make the most of their character, and recasts them if it doesn’t work out. Despite all this, actors such as Naomi Watts admitted that he was the best actor’s director they had ever worked with.

For such an iconic director, I had been disappointed concerning how little I really knew about him, but Woody Allen: A Documentary helped tremendously and only further strengthened my interest in Allen as a director. If your mentality is even remotely similar to mine, I urge you to partake and learn more about the man born Allen Konigsberg.

Comfy Navajo Look

Today I met up with my best friend who just got back from vacation in California where she got me these great Navajo/Western inspired earrings. So what did I do when I picked my outfit for the rest of the day? Worked everything around those earrings. Granted, I didn’t initially have the sweater on but I found it in the back of my closet, I was cold, it was comfy, and most importantly, it matched. I definitely need to wear chill western inspired outfits more often.
